As an intern, Christina was asked to conduct an Evaluation of the Communications Strategy for the Alternatives to Slash & Burn Policy Brief Series. This project examined a wide range of land use issues, carbon schemes, and poverty reduction programs. The report measured impacts and outcomes involving 10-item survey sent to approximately 1300 target audience members. The report concluded, through specially designed surveys, that their scientific studies and research was not reaching the audience that it was intended to serve (e.g. policy makers). In addition, she performed a literature review examining green agriculture for a World Bank Sponsored Paper.

As a Field Officer for this Development Agency, Christina gained a solid understanding of the practical application of qualitative satisfaction surveys to aid in natural resource management and community expectations. While executing survey interviews on random sample participants along various locations the Swan River in Perth, Western Australia, she learned about the practical applications of research methodologies.. This understanding was further supported by her direct involvement with report writing and data analysis. She assisted in compiling and analyzing data for over 400 surveys in 30 river parks, which involved the creation of detailed graphs and trend analysis over a three-year period.

Greenskills - Environmental Field Officer
Perth, Western Australia July-Dec 2013 While obtaining her Masters in Development in Perth, Australia, Christina worked for Greenskills - one of her favorite jobs. She worked outside in a great team environment and implemented the environmental management plans for local Shires and Councils of the Perth area. This included bush restoration and native rehabilitation work in the Swan River Valley focusing on tree plantings and weed control. |
