Photorealism
Reflection.
All of these art pieces are photography based. You will see a plethora of various perspectives and landscape themes (Winter in Port Townsend, Holiday in Baja Mexico, & a Short Stop through Southern California) along with the kaleidoscope of filter/blending techniques I embraced for this round of images.
As usual, this was all about exploring, but this time all my images were entirely my own. I want to become comfortable with this other digital painting part of the course although little "painting" rather just picking and choosing different styles and blend mode. I often ended up with way too many layers to experiment as I was engaged in the idea of tonal mapping and depth manipulation. I seemed to be fixated on bright, saturated images with texture due to the love of the sunny weather I am now missing in grey PNW. I also found that I wanted to keep as much detail as I could in the images by using raw camera filter multiple times for each image and blending it with texture/sketch based filters.
Sometimes there can be too many options! But again, this was about exploring so I let myself go with the flow of experimenting.

Reflection: A Lady in the Desert
With the beginning of this New Year, I knew I was going to move closer to the sun and desert; the idea of cactuses have been consuming my visionary thought pattern. Hence, I began with the prompt "lady in the desert" after my recent holiday in Baja Mexico as the desert landscape was my muse. I soon added with a big hat and camouflaged as that's what I envisioned.
I generated images with this prompt through the major art periods to understand the techniques better, which you will find under my top images below.
It appears my chosen technique involves hiding the face on these portrait images. For some reason, I like the intriguing, curiosity it brings to the model. It was important for me to integrate the model into the landscape, but also really stand out in beauty. A contrast of sorts in all different ways.
My current favorite techniques/styles to use: high contrast chiaroscuro, hyperrealistic, majestic, mexican muralism, illuminated landscapes, film noir, art nouveaux, art deco, pop art, surrealism, contemporary ukiyo-e.
The speciality of the desert is the extremes, its particular niches, and the ability for life to adapt. I enjoyed using high contrast since the sun is probably my favorite experience in this world and I love the shadows it casts. I love using colors too that obviously camouflage with its surroundings but also stands out; a contrast in itself. All top images utilize a variety of palettes, tones, and vibrancy. Yet, at the same time, the feelings of quiet, stability, and mysteriousness are solidly conveyed through the stillness, yet ever changing scenery of the desert.
Overall, I wanted to embrace the idea of "knowing thyself" with confidence, exuberance, harmony, and integration, which I believe all these women demonstrate. These ladies in the desert know their land; hence, they know themself.
